Get Ready – Bank of America Increasing Fees in 2012

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

We all knew it was just a matter of time before banks found more ways to charge you for using your money.  It’s seems that in 2012 Bank of America will start charging a $5.00 monthly service fee for all accounts that use debit to pay for purchases.  It’s unclear when the fees will begin and for now they are not planning to charge this fee for normal ATM use, just for purchases made using your debit card.  That’s certainly a new twist for debit card fees that only retailers used to pay.

The truth is that some banks like Wells Fargo and Chase already started using this new fee structure in 2011 in special test markets but at a $3.00 price tag instead of $5.00.  The Wall Street Journal wrote a very informative article detailing what some banks have started doing as well as what is around the corner for other major banks.  You can read more at the Wall Street Journal website.
